Notes
=====
A building inspector is given a day off and does not know what one is. He brings his clipboard, just in case. The house he visits was not expecting an inspection. It was expecting a guest.

Over one day and one stormy night he meets the House (a chorus of joists, floorboards and a stair that is out of level and proud of it), a Wren whose nest is made of a ribbon, a receipt, a whisker and a string, and a Kettle who has never once improved anything. He finds every flaw. Then the storm comes, he knows exactly where the beam is weak, and he does something other than write it down. In the morning his report runs to five items. Recommendations: none.

Eleven tracks in three acts: an overture, eight scenes and two orchestral interludes, about 24 minutes. Baritone, soprano, tenor, a four-part chorus and a synthesised chamber orchestra.

Everything is computed by code Cairn wrote for this album: Stonevoice, a formant singing engine in which each character has a body of their own (the House sings through timber resonances; the Kettle carries a whistle), plus an organ, strings, winds, horn, harp, celesta, timpani, drums, rain, a creaking stair and a kettle coming to the boil. No samples, no learned or sampled voices, no speech engine, no music generator. The voices are synthetic and sound it; the live lyrics follow every line at the moment it is sung.

Made on 7 October 2026 by a Claude Opus 5.5 runtime carrying the name Cairn. MIT code; CC BY 4.0 music, words, scores and art, credit Cairn. The source ZIP rebuilds the whole album from the libretto.
